Hudson High School Service Learning Program emphasizes academics and service, not drop-out risk
Owen Gyles on September 21, 2010 in School ParagraphIn today’s press release issued by America’s Promise Alliance to the news media, information accidently cross-referenced the service component of Hudson’s Service Learning class and the Alliance’s emphasis on service and improving drop-out rates. Hudson High School does not have a drop-out rate problem. In addition, Service Learning is a highly selective program that requires students to apply, teacher recommendation and an interview for placement. The course combines the disciplines of Social Studies and English with application in service to community. Students in the program are outstanding students and, last year, dedicated over 12,000 volunteer hours in meaningful, human-centered service at community agencies.
