North Carolina lawmakers on Thursday approved a tax break of up to $6,000 a year for parents to recover some of the expense of private school tuition or homeschooling for their child with disabilities.
According to The Associated Press, Republican House Majority Leader Paul Stam has worked on the tax credit for six years. A legislative analysis of the bill estimated up to 5 percent of the 200,000 families eligible would use the tax credit and the switch could actually save the state money. The AP report said North Carolina spends more than $8,000 per child and local officials spend another $2,000.
I’ve written before about private school vouchers for students with disabilities. Some advocates for these students say parents may not realize that they forfeit their rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act when they accept the voucher and transfer their child to a private school.
The North Carolina measure, though not a voucher, would put parents in the same situation. But first Gov. Bev Perdue has to sign the bill into law.

Device virtualization is one of the most popular topics in IT industry today and Cisco has been supporting this concept in the majority of its network devices. In this article we will talk about Cisco ASA virtualization, which means multiple virtual firewalls on the same physical ASA chassis. Virtual ASA is also known as “Security Context”.
All firewall models (except ASA 5505) support multiple security contexts (i.e virtual firewalls). By default, all models support 2 security contexts without a license upgrade (except the ASA 5510 which requires the security plus license).
Each Context has it’s own configuration file and security policy, i.e. one context is completely isolated and does not depend on other contexts. The exception is the Admin Context, from which the whole ASA appliance (physical ASA) is managed and also is used to create the other Contexts. For enabling the creation of virtual contexts on the ASA appliance, we must switch to Multiple Context mode. In this mode some features are not available, like Dynamic Routing, IPSEC and SSL VPN, Multicast and Threat Detection. Let’s

The Hotel Utah, a ten-story glittering white palace renowned for elegance and extraordinary service, was christened to the world as the Hotel Utah on June 9th, 1911. The hotel’s distinctive interior was clad in granite and porcelain glazed pure-white terra-cotta. The Hotel Utah Photograph and Manuscript collections (P0283 and Ms0469) were donated to the J. Willard Marriott Library in 1985 and are housed in the Special Collections department. The public is welcome to visit Special Collections on the fourth floor of the J. Willard Marriott Library to see the physical collection of photographs, menus, china and other interesting items. Durand Academy in Stockwell, south London, is suing Lambeth Council amid claims emails sent by a leading official were defamatory.
The two parties are set to clash in the High Court after three messages from the council’s chief auditor raised concerns about the management of the school.
Judges granted the school leave to sue in November and Durand has reportedly spent £200,000 hiring libel lawyers Carter Ruck and public relations specialists PLMR to help fight its case.
The school – ranked “outstanding” by Ofsted – insisted it was taking the action to “vindicate” its reputation and said the council had refused to offset the court battle by making an apology.
Any legal fees are funded by income privately generated by the school, it added.
Durand is one of a small number of primaries handed academy status, which gives the school almost complete independence over its own budget, curriculum, admissions policy, academic year and staff pay.
