The swift pace of change in the business and corporate world means that organisations should challenge themselves to think strategically in order to gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. This is where continuous learning fits in. Knowledge today is somewhat transient; it changes and evolves with time. Continuous learning seeks to address this challenge by encouraging students to consistently update their skill set. This is also vital for career growth and is seen as a tool to empower employees who may see new opportunities opened to them. There are two perspectives on continuous learning – that of the employee and that of the employer. Continuous learning is used by employees to improve their current, or future, employment prospects and by employers as a way of improving their organisational performance. In many respects, it’s an objective that serves a dual purpose.

To think of Wharton as a program that excels only in churning out investment bankers and management consultants would be a mistake. In fact, Wharton boasts a truly international program, ranked #2 in this area in the U.S. News & World Report MBA Ranking by Specialty in 2012 (up from #3 in 2011).

A full 36% of the schools class of 2013 is made up of international students representing 73 countries, and more than 24% of 2010 graduates took jobs outside the United States. Students who wish to study international business at Wharton have no shortage of options, including the following:

  • Between 100 and 150 Wharton students study at a partner school each year. One popular option is to leverage Wharton’s alliance with INSEAD by taking classes at one of that program’s campuses in Fontainebleau, France, or in Singapore. Alternatively, students can choose a semester-long international exchange program option at 15 partner schools.
  • Students who wish to pursue a dual degree in business and international studies can combine a Wharton MBA with an MA in International Studies from the Lauder Institute, a 24-month intensive program designed for those who seek to conduct high-level business in a country outside the United States. Alan Reinmiller said hes giving up the fight to try to get his stepdaughters FCAT test score validated and her name cleared.

Its really frustrating. Its really a feeling of powerlessness, Reinmiller said of his nine-month-long quest.

He fought to reverse the Florida Department of Educations decision to invalidate the test score of his stepdaughter, South Fort Myers High School senior Jada Bryant-Roland, because it was flagged for possible cheating. She was one of 231 students in Lee County and 6,967 in the state whose FCAT test, taken in spring 2011, was invalidated, according to FDOE statistics provided Friday to The News-Press. The previous number released for invalidated Lee tests was 50.

The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test must be passed by a student to graduate. The state administered 4.4 million tests last spring.

However, Bryant-Roland, now 18, will be able to graduate after all. She had also taken and gotten an acceptable score on the SAT, which state law says can be substituted for the FCAT.

To aid those recovering from the wrath of Tropical Storms Irene and Lee, community members are reaching out to their neighbors in town and around the Capital Region with a Fall Festival for Flood Relief on Saturday.

Pastor Steven Foti of the Bethel Full Gospel Church said his congregation wants to be part of the solution for families struggling to return their lives to normalcy.

Foti and his wife, Rachel, have been coordinating the hands-on tasks of preparing for the daylong volunteer event.

We want every penny to go right to the victims, Foti said.

In the spirit of giving that marks the holiday season, many businesses and individual donors have contributed items and services to keep down the costs of the fundraiser. All money raised will be funneled through the Schenectady City Mission flood relief fund.

Residents looking for gifts, baked goods, kissing balls and other holiday decorations will find them at the family friendly festival, and their purchases will aid the relief effort. A chi
